A Night of Music and Hope
Captivity survivor Alon Ohel performed in Florida: "A deeply symbolic event"
- 30 April, 2026
Recently, the Jewish community of Davie, Florida, gathered for an extraordinary evening honoring captivity survivor Alon Ohel, who has become deeply admired and embraced by the local community for his resilience and remarkable musical talent.
Held at the David Posnack Jewish Community Center (JCC), the event drew 500 attendees and filled the hall to capacity.
Accompanied by his family, Alon shared his personal story of survival and strength. Throughout the evening, he performed on the piano, transforming personal pain into music – a testament to his incredible courage, faith, and hope.
Alon's brother joined him on guitar for several pieces, while his mother read a heartfelt letter she had written to him during his time in captivity - a moving moment that left few dry eyes in the audience.
The evening reached a touching highlight when Alon performed alongside a group of young musicians from the community - a powerful symbol of unity, renewal, and shared future.
Throughout the program, a specially designed multimedia presentation accompanied the performance, weaving together stories and videos that enriched the experience.
“For me, beginning my shlichut with such an event was both deeply emotional and profoundly symbolic,” shared Oren Enzwaig, MWU Shaliach & David Posnack JCC Shaliach in South Florida.
More than a concert, the evening reflected the enduring strength of Jewish solidarity - across communities, generations, and borders.
As Alon returned to Israel to continue his rehabilitation journey, he left behind more than melodies – he left a community connected, uplifted, and inspired by his presence and story.
