"A National Mission"

Kfar Maccabiah welcomes military personnel and their families

  • 30 March, 2026

For more than two years, since the tragic events of October 7, MWU and Kfar Maccabiah have opened their hearts and doors to those who need it most - providing a full support system that includes accommodation, meals, emotional care, and a safe, protected environment, all while maintaining privacy and dignity.

Following the outbreak of the war with Iran, Kfar Maccabiah has become a central hub for military personnel, hosting senior officers and entire units who leave daily for their missions and return to a place that, over the past weeks, has truly become their home. Alongside them, their families remain on-site, finding comfort and stability within the complex.

“On February 28, we were preparing to host a large Purim carnival,” recalls Liat Leiba, Managing Director of Kfar Maccabiah Hotel and Conference Center. “Instead, we woke up to sirens. Guests began to leave, and within hours we started receiving urgent requests from the army to accommodate senior officers. At the same time, local authorities reached out regarding elderly residents who needed immediate access to protected spaces.”

Following missile impacts in central Israel, families evacuated from affected areas also found refuge at Kfar Maccabiah.

“Families are choosing to spend their time here, seeing Kfar Maccabiah as the safest and most welcoming place to be", Leiba explains. "Even though the army requested that we reserve most of the hotel, requiring hundreds of beds, we continue to host civilians, released hostages, athletes, and even medical certification exams. We have done everything possible to make room for everyone.”

“There is never a quiet moment,” she adds. “But for me, there is no option to say no. Kfar Maccabiah has always been a place that opens its doors to everyone - in routine and in times of crisis. This is our national mission. Even if it means reorganizing hundreds of rooms or adjusting meal times far beyond normal hours, we will always find a way.”

Despite the complexity, the team is now preparing for Passover under ongoing restrictions, ensuring that all necessary adjustments are made to provide the highest level of service and safety.

"Kfar Maccabiah operates under strict safety protocols, with immediate evacuation procedures and multiple protected spaces, including reinforced rooms and shelters across the complex", Leiba emphasizes. "This is one of the reasons why many families and private guests choose to stay here during this period - whether to celebrate the holiday or simply to find a place that truly feels like home".

Alongside the many challenges, there are also deeply moving moments.

“One couple staying with us recently welcomed a baby,” Leiba shares with a smile. “The mother left for the hospital to give birth and chose to return here with her newborn.  So today, we have a new guest - just two weeks old. Moments like these remind us that, despite everything, life continues - and that our movement, and the Jewish people as whole, are stronger than any challenge".
