This exciting ceremony, following the torch run of the Maccabi Tzair movement, had officially started the Maccabiah Torch Global Journey, symbolizing Maccabiah 2025's commitment to connecting sports and rehabilitation while honoring the courage of Israel's wounded soldiers. As part of this commitment, we're proud to announce that Maccabiah 2025 – which promises to be the most meaningful yet - will collaborate with the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization, supporting our wounded soldiers on their inspiring road to recovery. Moreover, the torch itself was crafted this year in a factory specializing in the production of prosthetics.
Evyatar Zytuni, a courageous leader in the Paratroopers Brigade who had the honor to of lighting the Maccabiah 2025 torch, was seriously injured while defending Kibbutz Kisufim. Today, as part of his recovery, he rides hand cycles at "Beit Halohem" in Tel Aviv, which is part of the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization.

Today, as I light the Maccabiah torch ahead of the games this summer, I feel an incredible sense of pride. I hope my story will inspire others to believe in themselves and chase their dreams."
"Evyatar embodies the power of sports in recovery and resilience," says Roy Hessing, CEO of Maccabiah. "Maccabiah 2025 will showcase the strength of Israel and the Jewish people through sport. We chose Evyatar, a Paralympic athlete who represents the Israeli spirit, to light the first torch as the beginning of our new collaboration with the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization. This is our tribute to the heroes whose courage makes Maccabiah 2025 possible."
Idan Kleiman, Chairman of the IDF Disabled Veterans Organization, adds: "Rehabilitation through sport shows that the human spirit is far stronger than the body. We are so proud of our heroes, who choose every day to face challenges head-on, and the amazing rehabilitation teams who help them live full, active lives."
The Maccabiah 2025 Torch will travel the world for six months before returning to Israel for the grand opening ceremony in July 2025!
