Maccabi Tzair Mexico: nurturing the next generation of Jewish leaders
- 01 February, 2026
Maccabi Tzair Mexico, together with our local schlicha Daniela Hochman, continues to nurture the next generation of Jewish leaders through values-based education, Jewish identity, leadership, and community-building - all through the power of non-formal education and scouting.
Before the end of 2025, more than 80 chanichim, madrichim, and Maccabi members came together for the Final Camp, one of the most meaningful moments of the year. The camp (machane) combined learning, leadership challenges, group activities, scouting and Aniva exams evaluating the knowledge of both chanichim and madrichim in areas related to maccabiut, along with powerful shared experiences - marking the closing of an important chapter in the participants’ Maccabi journey.

A deeply emotional highlight was the Mifkad Esh, where the Golden Book was read and a special promise ceremony took place. Participants also received a new aniva with inverted blue and white colors, symbolizing growth and the beginning of a new stage. As the ceremony concluded, participants officially joined the Council, reaffirming their ongoing commitment to the Maccabi Jewish community.
Following the camp, 20 Macabeo youth and alumni continued their journey in Israel through the Taglit Macabeo Program, carried out in partnership with Maccabi World Union. It was an intense and transformative experience of solidarity, commitment, and human connection, during a challenging, post-war time for Israeli society.
Throughout the week, participants volunteered where it mattered most: planting trees in Kfar Yuval, assembling food packages for families and communities affected by the war, preparing meals for soldiers, restoring rest areas used by IDF units, and taking part in agricultural volunteering in Beit Shemesh.
Equally impactful were the personal encounters and conversations that shaped the journey - including a geopolitics talk with Gabi Schorr, a moving meeting with Ilan Konfino, a soldier who made Aliyah from Uruguay and was wounded in Gaza during the Iron Swords war, and a powerful conversation with Amos Horn, brother of former hostages Yair and Eitan Horn, a close friend of the Macabeo family who shared his personal story of struggle and hope.
The group also visited meaningful sites such as the Kotel and Hostages Square, as well as Re’im and the site of the Nova Festival, where they heard firsthand testimony from a survivor.
Together, the Final Camp and Taglit Macabeo, made possible through the joint efforts of the CDI and MWU, formed a truly powerful journey - one that strengthened identity, deepened empathy, and reinforced a sense of responsibility and leadership, leaving a lasting impact on every participant.
This is how Maccabi Tzair Mexico turns values into action - and shapes leaders for life.
