Maccabi Year of Service – Be part of Maccabiah in summer 2022 in Israel
Maccabi World Union (MWU) is the largest and longest running Jewish sports organization spanning over five continents, in 80 countries, 450 clubs, and 450,000 members. We are a Zionist organization that utilizes sports to bring Jewish people of all ages closer to Judaism and Israel.
This program will give you the opportunity to live, volunteer, learn and explore Israel with other high school graduates from English-speaking countries around the world (this program is offered in Canada, USA, Australia, UK, South Africa). The program will offer you a chance to learn Hebrew (Ulpan), learn and connect to your Jewish roots through learning experiences and exploring Israel, and most importantly volunteer in Israeli sports & educational organizations who are dedicated to social change and instilling values through sport. You will have a chance to be part of the production of mega sport events with the Maccabi movement, and the peak of the year will be when you will join the 21st Maccabiah organizing team, helping Maccabi world union welcome 10,000 Jewish athletes from 80 countries.
While volunteering, the participants will live a full life with Maccabi Tzair young adults who are also doing their year of service in Israel, so they will be living with Israelis their own age.
Volunteering organizations and their Maccabiah volunteer will be tailor made to the abilities & skills each participant has. Some of the volunteering will be with the Israelis they live with and some will be designated to the group of the English speakers.
In addition to the volunteer program, the participants will go on trips, participate in Maccabi seminars, conduct joint activities with Maccabi Tzair Israel and meet youth from the various Maccabi clubs in the world who are in the training year program in Israel.
The Shnat Sherut volunteers will be looked after by a Madrich and a logistic coordinator from Maccabi world Union who will be available to them at all times.
This program is perfect for sport enthusiasts who are looking to volunteer, make connections with local Israelis and peers from around the world.
Program dates: November 2021 – August 2022 (9 month)
Program cost: The price includes: housing, food, insurance, trips, transportation, monthly stipend, Ulpan, a guide (Madrich), program coordinator. price will be updated later on this year.

Each participant has 4 volunteering structures:
- Maccabiah 2022
- Maccabi Sport Unions & Sport Clubs - with Maccabi Israel
- Maccabi Tzair Israel
- Sport/ Education organization
The structures are subject to change according to the participants' needs, skills & abilities.
Hebrew Ulpan (Hebrew Studies); Two/ Three days a week, for 8 weeks, at Ulpan Gordon. Following a placement exam, each student will be assigned to his or her level and given a class schedule.
Once a month the group will have a Group Day; this is a day when the entire group (both Israelis & English speakers) has an activity with its Madrich. The first part of the day will be led by the Madrich and the second part is being led by the participants themselves.
*The Madrich is meeting the participants at list once a week for general matters.
Participants will go on field trips either as an organic group, planned and coordinate by MWU or either as part of Maccabi Tzair youth Movement program.
