Maccabi North America
Maccabi North America, one of Maccabi World Union’s six confederations, is responsible for Maccabi’s North American operations. Our aim is to perpetuate and preserve the American Jewish community through sports and other cultural and educational endeavors. We aim to allow American Jews to take pride in their community, strengthen Jewish identity and create strong bonds between America and Israel.
As a means of achieving these aims, we encourage sports-based activities on the regional, national and international levels, and support the creation and maintenance of spaces for these activities. These athletic interchanges serve as an ideal way for Jewish athletes to share their heritage and customs and promote the Maccabi ideals of Jewish continuity and Zionism.
As part of our mandate we:
- Sponsor the United States Team at the Maccabiah
- Support the JCC Maccabi Games, an annual event hosted by Jewish community Centers across North America for young adults aged 14 to 16
- Plan and manage youth trips to Israel
- Encourage and support the participation of American Jewish youth in international events
- Support athletic facilities and programs in Israel
- Take an active role in Maccabi World Union
